There is no displayed object for "Add Network Place" when navigating.

In your documentation it states:

7.8.2.1  To Add a Network Place
To add a network place, perform the following steps:
Open the file manager and choose Places → Computer . 
Alternatively, double-click on the Computer object on the Desktop. A file object
window is displayed.
Double-click on the Add Network Place object. The Add Network Place dialog is
displayed. Enter the details of the server in the dialog, as follows:

Sorry, the documentation is out of date. In 2.6 that was replaced with File ->
Connect to Server (from any nautilus window).
