GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 137455
Delete key doesn't work sometimes
Last modified: 2010-07-28 21:03:08 UTC
Sometimes when you press the Delete key to move files into the Trash in Nautilus 2.5.x, it doesn't do anything (at least the first time you push it). Exactly when it is unresponsive is a little hazy, but I can reproduce 100% of the time right after an icon selection: 1. Click on a file icon with the mouse 2. Press the Delete key within half a second -- nothing will happen 3. Wait a second, and press it again -- the file vanishes Sometimes Delete doesn't work even when files have been selected for a while, I think -- but this is at least a reproducible scenario.
I can reproduce this bug too, and it has been a problem for several Gnome releases. I've seen it in all Gnome releases from 2.4 through 2.8.3.
I do also see that with Nautilus 2.13, updating version. From taking a look at the code, the new selection might only be available after the repick events were emitted in eel-canvas.c:do_update.
This affects me on a daily basis with gnome 2.30 ( nautilus-2.30.1-3.fc13.x86_64 ). It looks like I'm not alone [1]. 1. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=760278
Sounds very much like Bug # 517639 but for other keys.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in the next software version. You may want to check for a software upgrade. I'm pretty sure it's the same as in #599680, but if you find this wrong, please reopen. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 599680 ***
