Description of Problem:
The gnome-mixer-applet does not change the volume of my sound card.  It
indicates that the lowest sound volume is currently selected, however,
this has no affect on the rest of the system.  I can right click on it
and Open Volume 
Control, and that will change the volume of my system.  gst-register has
been run, and it apparently can find a mixer device, but no matter the
mixer applet has no affect on volume.
