GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 122706
Text: no multiple styles
Last modified: 2010-03-07 00:29:34 UTC
The Text tool does not allow multiple styles (font, size, hinting/no hinting, antaliasing or none, colour, justification, indent, line spacing and so on) inside one block of text.
Perhaps one day we will even implement this but certainly not for 2.0.
Setting a few target milestones now that 2.2 is getting closer.
Does this have to be implemented in Pango?
No, it can be implemented in GIMP but it's a rather large change and there are more important improvements to the text tool which should come first.

I would really like to see this option. It's one of these things which make people say that Photoshop is "better".
(In reply to comment #8) > I would really like to see this option. It's one of these things which make > people say that Photoshop is "better". > Yes, I'd also like to see this feature included, although there are definately more important issues with the text tool in my opinion (bug #125144 and #169616).
In my opinion this would be an important improvement to the text tool. Multiple styles (inside a text box) are essential in almost every word-processing program and indispensable when GIMP is supposed to compete with Photoshop.
GIMP is not supposed to compete with Photoshop. We have a vision for GIMP, but it is certainly not about competing with Photoshop. Please refrain from adding such comments to bug reports. If you have a patch that implements this feature, feel free to add it. But please don't add comments that only express your interest in a particular feature.
I declare multiple styles as existing now. Bugs with the new feature or enhancement requests should be filed as new bugs.
