GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 117567
unable to 'UI grab' drop-down combo-boxes
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Using gnome-2.4 nightly build from 14 July 2003. . logged in as normal user from failsafe session - run gok - go to GOK's preferences - go to access methods . GOK keyboard has just UI Grab highlighted - select UI GRab . there is no button on GOK keyboard to access the selection method drop-down combo-box. I had to manually select it whilst in direct selection mode, otherwise only cycling through options on the page with the tab key can select it.
David, thanks again. This is a known issue. The UI grab feature is not exhaustive. It is, however an ultimate goal and so I will open an uber-bug for adding UI grabbage. I am not sure this is priority for 2.3 as the user can still branch to the compose keyboard and use "regular" keyboard access to control the GUI.
Apologies for spam... marking as GNOMEVER2.3 so it appears on the official GNOME bug list :)

I think we ought to fix this one for GOK 1.0. If time permits I'd target GNOME 2.6 also.
What is the status of using gok key nav on drop-down combo boxes?
bumping up priority since these are so common, and since it means GOK can't be used very well to configure GOK itself (e.g. doesn't work well with the preferences dialog).
at the least, we should put the comboboxes in the UI Grab and then focus them if the corresponding GokKey is activated. From there, the compose keyboard could be conveniently used to navigate. Better would be to actually branch to a GokKeyboard containing the drop-down list items; possibly not a lot more work. I think this is best handled in or jsut after my performance patch, since it's revamping most of the UI Grab stuff. assigning to myself for now, may reassign to david later
Bill, I believe the honour is yours, please close this one :-)
