Confirmed, but this isn't it a poppler issue ?
Both, poppler and evince.

I get this bug when looking at iAnnotate documents where I've used the typewriter tool. I will attach a sample with 4 annotations I made in red in the margins (plus one in black at the top). For this case, I'm not sure this is a poppler bug... the annotations display correctly in the PDF rendering. However, they are omitted in the "annotations" sidepane. Given that in my example the annotations are in-line text as annotations, I'm not sure it's required that they show up in the annotations. Perhaps for my case this warning should be suppressed? (I looked at the other samples and it was unclear what the annotation was, so I can't tell if this non-bug proposal applies more generally.)

KDE 4.9.00 is now producing this type of annoation when using its inline note annotation tool. The object in the PDF is as follows: 11 0 obj <</Type /Annot /Rect [136.62985 617.172528 231.388955 667.869348 ] /Subtype /FreeText /DA (/Invalid_font 11 Tf) /M (D:20120824103913) /T (þÿ^@F^@e^@l^@i^@x^@ ^@M^@ö^@l^@l^@e^@r) /Contents (þÿ^@T^@e^@s^@t) /NM (okular-{532e710d-29d3-4467-8b32-c76bd94282a5}) /F 4 /C [1 1 0 ] /CA 1 /Border [0 0 1 ] /Q 0 /P 1 0 R >> endobj^M The appearance in evince is correct. However, they are missing in the annotation side bar. Acrobat displays them there as expected.
https://www.cia.gov/news-information/featured-story-archive/2012-featured-story-archive/CleanedUOSSSimpleSabotage_sm.pdf also contains this type of annotation, and evince 3.4.0-3 produces the following on stderr when rendering it: ** (evince:24166): WARNING **: Unimplemented annotation: POPPLER_ANNOT_FREE_TEXT, please post a bug report in Evince bugzilla (http://bugzilla.gnome.org) with a testcase.

Created attachment 245674 [details] A PDF sample checked with qpdf program as good. The warning appears.
