Hi,

Since I've compiled freetype support into dia, the background of fonts is
white. On a dark background this looks pretty bad (see attached screenshot).
When exporting the diagram as PNG image, the font background is transparent
as it should be.

I am using freetype-2.1.2-r1.

This has been fixed in the CVS version.  It would be much appreciated if you could try it out.
