Messages that cannot be downloaded from news server are not marked in the
article list, and the task is removed from the task manager without leaving
a notification for the user.

I just found that removing the task from the task manager is an
existing user preference, Edit->Preferences->General.  I cannot
remember if "Automatically remove ..." is the default, my personal
preference is that failed tasks remain in the task manager.  Still
would like to see an "X" for failed items in the main window article list.
