Tested with Sun beta 2 build 6 package. Source taken from gnome-2-0 by Tue

When a second tab is created in the terminal ,the window size changes.But 
when more tabs are created ,the window size remains the same.When the 
second tab is closed , the original size is restored.

I don't think this is a bug per se, the terminal grid size is just
staying constant as you add/remove tabs. 

There's a separate open bug to always show tabs, even when we only
have one.
