RFE: syntax highlighting in gedit
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
I think it would be useful to have syntax highlighting in gedit, like KDE's kwrite/kate (or indeed various text-mode editors). I.e. you select a mode describing the nature of the file you were working on - e.g. C, Perl, Bash, HTML, etc. - and gedit would highlight the syntax of the page you were working on in a meaningful fashion. If possible, the mode would be determined automatically, e.g. by extension / mime type.
Paolo and I have plans for doing this, however, the means of implementation has not been decided upon. It definitely will be cool to have syntax highlighting in gedit (with auto-indention and maybe even auto-complete for source code, etc).
i second the motion.
auto-indentation was required too

Auto indentation has been implemented in CVS HEAD.
Syntax highlighting missed the 2.2 feature freeze

Syntax highlighting is at the top of my TODO list for 2.4. I'm already working on it.
Syntax highlighting has been implemented in CVS HEAD.
I would like css support too, if it is possible. Gedit would provide a good development tool for webmaster.
