Description padraig.obriain 2002-06-26 14:11:30 UTC
I can move desktop icons around the desktop icons around the desktop using
the mouse but there does not seem to be a way to do it using just the
keyboard.
Comment 1 padraig.obriain 2002-06-26 14:17:12 UTC
Reducing severity as Calum has noted that a well known operating
system does not support this either.
Comment 2 Calum Benson 2002-07-29 18:36:43 UTC
Which isn't to say we shouldn't go one better than them, of course :)

Perhaps more important is the fact that you can't resize icons on the
desktop or in a Nautilus icon view using only the keyboard, updating
summary accordingly.

moving to GNOMEVER2.3
Comment 7 Calum Benson 2003-04-03 14:44:41 UTC
Updating status_whiteboard field to reflect A11Y team's assessment
of accessibility impact.
Comment 8 Calum Benson 2003-04-24 20:56:29 UTC
When somebody looks at this, would suggest that good shortcuts to use
for 'move' and 'resize' would be Alt+F7 and Alt+F8, the default window
(and now panel) move and resize shortcuts. Might just want to
hardcode them rather than tying them into the actual keys chosen in
the keyboard shortcut prefs, though.

Apologies for spam... marking as GNOMEVER2.3 so it appears on the official GNOME
bug list :)

Comment 13 Calum Benson 2007-04-05 11:41:19 UTC
Is this ever likely to happen? Somebody on the accessibility mailing list needed this feature today, which just reminded me about it!
Comment 14 António Fernandes 2018-01-02 18:48:34 UTC
Starting with version 3.28, nautilus will not handle the "files on desktop background" feature. For better alternatives, read this blog post https://csorianognome.wordpress.com/2017/12/21/nautilus-desktop-plans/
