In the group, I select a bunch and do Shift-S. The disk icons appear
on the left. Then switch to another group, come back, and the disk
SOMETIMES (I can't see why) changes to the green stack of disks icon
(what is that supposed to be :)) and sometimes it changes to nothing.

The diskettes always disappear. The downloaded file names remain
light gray.

I'm looking at one batch of articles now where about 1/2 of the disk
icons changed to the green stacked disks and the others disappeared. I
can confirm the files were downloaded, though.
