Chris, could you look into this?
Comment 2 Christophe Lambin 2002-04-25 18:14:42 UTC
gianpaolo,

I've tried to reproduce this, but it can't get it to crash. If this
is reproducible for you, could you give us a hand and send in a
backtrace? This is real easy to do: just follow the instructions at
http://pan.rebelbase.com/bugs/#backtrace

If you don't have a bugzilla account, just send the trace to
pan@rebelbase.com.

Many thanks,
Chris

gianpaolo replies to pan@rebelbase.com:

I attach here my trace. Don't know if I did everything in the right
way.
I noticed that tha crash occurs only when I try to forward long
articles changing my identity.

hope it helps.

gianpaolo's backtrace
Comment 5 Charles Kerr 2002-04-29 19:35:58 UTC
The interesting part of the backtrace is

  #0 0x405b18d3 in malloc () from /lib/libc.so.6
  #1 0x405b2351 in realloc () from /lib/libc.so.6
  #2 0x405b2201 in realloc () from /lib/libc.so.6
  #3 0x4045a00a in g_realloc () from /usr/lib/libglib-1.2.so.0
Cannot access memory at address 0x31
  (gdb) thread 2

It looks like Pan has a is trying to realloc a string inside a
struct, where the pointer to the struct is NULL.
Comment 6 Charles Kerr 2002-04-29 19:40:58 UTC
gianpaolo: Does it crash right when you change the
From: header, or when you hit 'send', or...?
Comment 7 Christophe Lambin 2002-04-29 19:56:00 UTC
We'll need confirmation from gianpaolo, but I think it crashes when
switching profiles on long articles. When a user switches profiles,
Pan will reconstruct the article, taking into account the new
profile's attribution line & signature.

If it crashes at this point, I suspect this is another manifestion of
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68058. That
bug shows itself by crashing when you rewrap an article.

I could be wrong, of course.
Comment 8 gianpaolo racca 2002-04-29 23:45:37 UTC
Just to say it crashes when you switch profile, not when you click
the send button.
Comment 9 Charles Kerr 2002-05-12 13:28:57 UTC
I can't reproduce this in 0.11.92.

gianpaolo: could you upgrade and see if you can still
make it crash?
Comment 10 gianpaolo racca 2002-05-12 15:29:52 UTC
sorry but not so rapidly... (gtk2 and so on... It's my production
machine and I can't test so much on it...

Thanks anyway, I'm sure that the bug will be solved.

Comment 11 Charles Kerr 2002-05-25 16:39:21 UTC
I don't see any reason to believe this will be solved
unless you help us -- we don't see the bug and can't
reproduce it.

I'm marking this a NEEDINFO.
Comment 12 Charles Kerr 2002-06-04 04:08:15 UTC
punting NEEDINFO reports from 0.12.0 to 0.12.1.

If the bug reporters come through with more information,
they can be moved back into 0.12.0.
Comment 13 gianpaolo racca 2002-06-11 18:35:59 UTC
tried pan 0.11.94 (mandrake cooker rpms).
can't reproduce the problem. seems solved.
thanks
Comment 14 Christophe Lambin 2002-06-12 21:47:46 UTC
gianpaolo: many thanks for the update.

Marking as fixed in 0.12.0.
