GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 78120
desktop ignores alternative keybindings specified in the file-manager xml for delete
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
trying to delete a file on the desktop with the delete key doesn't work. I'm pretty sure it did in 1.06. also it does work when browsing files in the icon view.
Doesn't work for me with Nautilus 1.1.11 from April 8 snapshots, either.
This is probably because you use sloppy focus mode and the window manager won't let you focus the root window. We should have a keyboard combo that gives focus to the desktop.
i'm using the default sawfish settings that come with the ximian snapshots
Pretty sure both parts of this bug are a duplicate :)
I know how to fix this. The problem is that in delete is defined as a shortcut in the nautilus-directory-view-ui.xml and not in fm-directory-view.c. so the shortcut isn't passed to the desktop through inheritance (at least this is my limited understanding). I think we should change the default keybinding to delete. I have another bug for that and that will fix this.

Dave B. did you have a fix for this?
THere are a lot of issues here. Its highly untrivial (well at least for a bad hack like me) to fix i fear. I may hack around with it and see if i can get it to work sometime.
alexl fixed this.
