Description Allan Day 2016-12-08 12:46:31 UTC
1. Receive a private message from someone, so that a notification is shown
2. Open the shell's notification list and click on the notification
3. The private conversation is shown in Polari
4. Go back to the shell's notification list - the notification is still there

Notifications should be removed when they're activated.

Those are gnome-shell's built-in chat notifications. The last notification redesign didn't fundamentally change how they work, which is probably the issue here - they stick around while the channel is open (that is, until explicitly closed by the user), which made some sense with the old message tray that still allowed access to the interactive banner and thus could be used as a fully working chat client on its own.

Right, my expectation was that they would work like any other notification, since they look the same.
Comment 3 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 14:22:26 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
