GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 762085
gst-base 1.7 update created background buzzing noise with audioconvert
Last modified: 2016-02-17 10:48:01 UTC
The bug has been reported on https://launchpad.net/bugs/1539700 When using crossfading in rhythmbox the sound is noisy like in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1539700/+attachment/4559321/+files/Rb-audio_cd.ogg The issue is not there with gst-plugins-base 1.6.3 but is with 1.7.1 That gst command has a similar issue $ gst-launch-1.0 cdiocddasrc mode=1 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! pulsesink I've tried to backport https://cgit.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gst-plugins-base/commit/?id=7bbfa39ada905b44743170f6c29d13e5fefb5888 but that doesn't resolve the issue
that command also has the issue "gst-launch-1.0 -v audiotestsrc wave=silence ! queue ! adder name=a ! audio/x-raw,format=S16LE,rate=44100,channels=2 ! audioconvert ! autoaudiosink uridecodebin uri=file:///tmp/song.mp3 ! audioconvert ! queue ! a."

I can't seem to reproduce that issue on master. Can you check with master or latest 1.7.9x pre-release ?
ok, I'm going to have a look to build from git ... but where can I find the pre-release? I'm looking on http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/gst-plugins-base/1.7/ but 1.7.1 is the most recent tarball
1.7.1 is the most recent tarball indeed. There were multiple fixes in git master that might fix this, so would be awesome if you could test that if you can reproduce the reported issue yourself.
indeed, it seems fixed with git ... do you know when are the next 1.7 tarballs going to be rolled out? https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/gstreamer-announce/2015-October/000359.html states that 1.8.0 should be out by now, did the plan change? should we roll back Ubuntu to 1.6 (our feature freeze is this week and we decided to go for 1.7 based on the 1.8 roadmap that seems off now...)
Hopefully 1.7.2 will be released this or next week, and with that the feature freeze starts. From there on we only need to fix all remaining blocker bugs and do 1-2 1.7.9x release candidates until we're certain that nothing is broken.
Great, thanks for the status update, looking forward having new tarballs including that fix! ;-)
