This seems useful.
Comment 2 Luis Villa 2002-04-16 03:01:20 UTC
Nautilus is supposed to have sm, like other apps; this should include
window sizing.
Comment 3 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-06-20 19:16:00 UTC
not sure what to do here. We have sm now so any window you open from
the desktop will be the same as the previous state (regardless of the
your open window preference). Basically the default window size is
hardcoded but since session management and individual window size is
now implemented i'm inclined to just mark fixed. If the current
behavior isn't good enough for you please reopen.
Comment 4 Dave Camp 2002-06-20 19:20:22 UTC
With sm implemented, every window that is opened when a previously
saved session is restored will have the size it had when the session
was saved. This does not apply to new windows opened from the desktop.
Comment 5 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-06-20 19:25:57 UTC
dave well the default geometry is fixed (hard coded). however one you
change the geometry of a window nautilus will save that geometry for
whenever you open that window. I think our current solution is pretty
elegant but if you disagree reopen i guess. The only real solution is
to create a set of gconf keys that let users specify the default
window size but thats pretty crackky too.
Comment 6 kz 2002-06-20 20:17:01 UTC
I think propotional initial geometry is better than numeric one.
Comment 7 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-06-21 13:03:16 UTC
maybe your right, and this initial size should be proportional. I'll
reopen i guess based on that. (I assume this is possible in X). but
marking low on the priority as with the current design this is less of
an issue. louie as always correct me if you disagree :)
Comment 8 Dave Camp 2002-06-21 14:19:14 UTC
I believe that someone should choose a certain number of icons that
are needed to get useful work done at the default zoom, and choose a
window size based on that. I don't think that people running at
1600x1200 want the same percentage that is useful at 800x600; what is
normal to take up 75% of an 800x600 screen is obscenely large on a
1600x1200 screen. And vice-versa.
Comment 9 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-06-21 14:28:55 UTC
What happens if you're default view in the list view?
Comment 10 Dave Camp 2002-06-21 14:43:41 UTC
Then there are a certain number of rows that are necessary to be
useful. It makes choosing a default size harder, but it doesn't
justify using percentages.

Is that still an issue?
