The background lines aren't properly aligned with the lines of text (particularly noticeable if you change the font), and they don't appear in the note thumbnails. You could also argue that they distract from the actual note content.

I discussed this with Jakub, who originally proposed them, and we agreed that it would be an improvement if the lines were simply removed.
