Description cerven 2002-03-07 09:02:32 UTC
I've set HOME variable in autoexec.bat (otherwise Dia dies
already by start even in 0.89 version on Win 95).

But after some actions (like resizing the Canvas window,
opening UML Class Properties dialog,
opening Diagram tree window etc.)
DOS Prompt window opens with message:
"This program may only be started by Microsoft Windows"
and Dia dies (Not responding) and I have to kill it
(Ctrl-Alt-Del -> End Task).

On Windows 2000 works the same binary distribution fine.
Comment 1 Steffen Macke 2002-03-08 16:05:36 UTC
Did you install using the installer or zipfiles?
Were there previous versions of dia installed on the system?
Comment 2 cerven 2002-03-11 09:53:15 UTC
I have used Installer.
Version 0.88 was installed before with similar behavior.
I uninstalled version 0.88 with Uninstall command in start menu
and then I cleaned registry.
Comment 3 Steffen Macke 2002-03-11 15:29:32 UTC
Could you try to re-install again and make sure that the folder
you install to is empty (that there are no leftover files from
the previous install)? I'm not sure wether this might help, though.
Comment 4 cerven 2002-03-11 15:41:38 UTC
I've installed it in a completely new folder
c:\dia (with no spaces and no Uppercase/lowercase mix)
Comment 5 Elijah Newren 2002-12-07 23:33:43 UTC
and did that fix the problem?
Comment 6 cerven 2002-12-09 09:53:55 UTC
No it didn't.

But now I am using version 0.90 which works.
This version dies just on File/Quit command,
so that I have to kill it,
but it is usable now.

On Windows 2000 Dia works with no problems.
Comment 7 Elijah Newren 2002-12-09 14:57:19 UTC
Ok. Then I'll reopen. Also, updating the bug (summary & version) to
reflect the new but related problem. Also, since you say it's usable,
I'm going to drop severity to normal.
Comment 8 Steffen Macke 2003-08-23 13:59:20 UTC
Could you try out the latest dia 0.91 installer and check whether
the problem still exists?
Installing to c:\dia is a good idea - One Windows 9* user reported
problems with the non-8.3 compliant folder name
c:\program files - he had to use c:\program~1 in the batch file.
Comment 9 cerven 2003-09-04 06:18:56 UTC
I have tried version 0.91-3.
This version hangs already on start (during Loading... screen).

But I think it is not worth the effort to fix.
Win 95 is rather obsolete, I have upgraded to Win XP,
old machine with Win 95 I have left to my children to play.

On Win XP and Win 2000 there is no problem.
Comment 10 Hans Breuer 2003-09-30 21:40:41 UTC
even Gtk is not known to work on win9x - it works with some
known restrictions on win98, as long as still use my small
notebook :-)
Setting to WONTFIX for win95 a the reporter suggested.
