GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 734080
Generating key shows no progress
Last modified: 2018-08-03 19:40:52 UTC
No progress dialog shown when generating a new PGP key via seahorse.
Created attachment 282206 [details] [review] libseahorse: Fix regression where progress window is not shown We were unreferencing the progress window incorrectly before the task it was tracking was actually done.
Federico, could you test the above patch? I believe this fixes the regression. The resulting progress dialog is rather clunky ... but it's there.
Still no progress.. I running it in Fedora 21, install it from yum.
I believe this is still an issue. I'm using 3.15.90 on Ubuntu 15.04.
This is still an issue in version 3.18.0 (the version distributed with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS). This is particularly bad on a VM, as given the lack of entropy the process is very slow and the user may incorrectly assume the key generation has simply failed.
Issue still exists in 3.20, contained in Debian 9. When generating 4096 bit keys, I've seen slow machines taking ~5 minutes for key generation, so this is really an issue.
