Description Allan Day 2014-06-13 17:54:23 UTC
Two of the most popular Nautilus extensions are Dropbox and Sparkleshare.

For users of these extensions, the Dropbox and Sparkleshare folders are among the most important locations they have, and are as important as the other XDG folders.

Allowing these extensions to add a permanent location to the sidebar would be a convenient navigation aid. It would also give them a permanent home in the Nautilus UI.

It would also make sense for these extensions to be able to define a context menu for the sidebar entry, and to allow them to update the icon in the sidebar to indicate syncing status. This would mean that these extensions can provide all the UI they need within Nautilus, without having to resort to using status icons.

There's some visual guidance here:

(See the sidebar section at the bottom.)

Comment 7 André Klapper 2021-06-18 15:53:04 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
