Description Mikko Rauhala 2002-02-22 00:04:58 UTC
Hi.

Galeon seems to hang on some Web sites consistently. Off the top of my
head I can mention http://www.sinfest.net as an example page, don't
really remember others, sorry. When straced, Galeon seems to hang at
a select() call, however, mouse movement around the window still generated
new calls. The user interface was frozen solid, however.

I don't have plugins except for an OJI plugin from j2sdk1.3.1. Java isn't
even enabled, though.

Well, added a strace in case that clears something up for somebody.
Also, appears that my usual Galeon session of 12 sites is crashing
it as well, I'll send the address if I can isolate the culprit.

(Sinfest's earlier comics are better than most of the new stuff, btw ;)

I cant really make much of the strace. What would be more usefull is a
stacktrace of the crash, you can get on if running galeon under gdb
Comment 5 Mikko Rauhala 2002-02-23 13:28:38 UTC
Well, as said in before, it doesn't exactly crash, but just stops
at a select() call while leaving the UI completely unresponsive.

Hmm...

Further testing seems to indicate that using dual head X with Xinerama
triggers the behaviour, or at least I wasn't able to reproduce it
without Xinerama in use. So, it seems that this could be an XFree86 bug.
(Using Debian Sid's xserver-xfree86-4.1.0-14) - at least I can't think
of anything that Galeon could have to do with it.

Apologies for the inconvenience (and thanks for a great browser,
which hopefully continues to work properly as I've disabled Xinerama
at least for the time being).

Lets hope its fixed elsewhere
Thanks for folowing up
