Description Dennis Cranston 2002-02-03 19:44:23 UTC
After feed back from many gnome developers, I would like to submit another
patch for the gnome-search-tool application (formerly gsearchtool).

My patch makes these modifications.

1. Removes the dialog-like row of buttons along the bottom of the
window to reduce the "is it an application or a dialog" confusion.
2. Changes "directory" terminology to "folder".
3. Removes the Cancel button. The Find button changes to a Stop
button while searching. *(This should resolve bugzilla 68978, "No
        feedback while searching".)
4. The results field is divided into five columns containing 'Name',
'Folder', 'Size', 'Type', and 'Date Modified' information. *(This
        should resolve bugzilla 68979,
"To little information in search results, confusing structure of
        results".)
5. The results section can be ordered according to any of the five
        columns.
6. The 'Name' column includes the mime type icon.
7. The usage of mnemonics has been improved.
8. A vpaned widget was added to the advanced page so users can adjust
the height of the results section.
9.
Reduced 3D "confusion" on the advanced page.
10. While searching, GUI responsiveness is improved.

Below are the URLs of two screen shots to illustrate these modifications.

Dennis -
If you do this, could you please post a note to gnome-doc-list so the
need to redo documentation and screenshots gets flagged? Thanks.
Comment 2 Dennis Cranston 2002-02-03 19:58:39 UTC
John-

I do not have commit rights to gnome cvs. If George wants to commit
my patch, then I will make sure a note is posted to gnome-doc-list ASAP.

Thanks,
Dennis

All,

I have updated the gsearchtool.c.diff file. Sorry I forgot to include
in the orginal patch, code to define the minimum size of the
application window.

Thanks,
Dennis

The URL field has been removed from bugzilla.gnome.org. This URL was in the old URL field, and is being added as a comment so that the data is not lost. Please email bugmaster@gnome.org if you have any questions.
