I found the required version of GLib written in configure.ac is 2.29.14, but g_type_init() is removed in commit 18c95231. file-roller may fail to start in GLib < 2.36.

This problem exists in file-roller 3.9. (Fedora 18 with GLIb 2.34)

This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
