Description Vitaly Zdanevich 2013-06-02 17:21:50 UTC
User can't remove system folder and bookmarks in Nautilus - Music, Templates, etc. Bookmarks have gray menu element in context menu, and if user remove folder Music from Home - after restart this folder is created automatically again.

And could be good to give a possibility change address (link) of this folders (Music, Videos...) to another physical location. For example, some users have music on another physical hard drive.

You can visit this links - users looking for a solution:

All of this is possible already, by editing the ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs text file. In that file, we can change the address of these folders. Changing the address to $HOME/ will remove them from nautilus sidebar.

Should nautilus provide UI to configure this?

Also see bug 696318.

In my opinion, user must have simple solution for deleting this folders. Sometimes I need to reinstall my OS and format disk - I keep my music on another hard drive.

~/.config/user-dirs.dirs it's good, but why if we have option "remove" under context menu (right click on this bookmarks), and this point is not active for this folders (like in Windows :)

Yes, I think, Nautilus should provide UI to configure this.

Perfect world: When I remove this folder - dead links are deleted too.

Thanks for making Linux ;)

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
