We are aiming to have an highcontrast app icon for all apps in 3.8.

Comment 3 Thomas Andersen 2013-02-19 22:03:11 UTC
Hi Andreas,

The HC icons should be added as HighConstrast icons, right? but what should I do with the symbolic one?
Comment 4 Andreas Nilsson 2013-02-19 22:54:52 UTC
Adding Matthias and Jakub to the discussion to see if they have any tips about best practice here.
Comment 5 Robert Ancell 2013-02-20 11:25:13 UTC
Note for all the other icons I have committed I have not used the -symbolic .svg. Also awaiting what we should do there - i.e. should it go into scalable?
Comment 6 Robert Ancell 2013-02-20 11:37:32 UTC
Also some of the older high contrast icons are in gnome-themes-standard module, we need to know if they should be moved into the game modules.
Comment 7 Daniel Mustieles 2013-03-04 09:49:33 UTC
Any progress on this? It would be great to close this Goal before 3.8 release ;)

Thanks!

Ping: any news about this?
Comment 9 Andreas Nilsson 2013-08-13 08:16:39 UTC
Matthias Clasen knows how to best install these.
Comment 10 Matthias Clasen 2013-08-13 15:55:15 UTC
The current process for the conversion is a bit painful:

1) Copy the symbolic icon into your gnome-icon-theme-symbolic tree
2) Run create-highcontrast from the gnome-themes-standard tree
3) Pick the generated hc icons out of the gnome-themes-standard tree

Not as-is: https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-sudoku/commit/?id=8b921d2e901f2fc355a5d7471a2c9578b104fa26

It should be safe so long as the icon ends in -symbolic.svg to distinguish it from the normal icon. But I haven't been able to find a single application that distributes a symbolic icon (apart from a couple in gnome-icon-theme-symbolic). I suspect it's just not needed unless we actually use them?
