GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 69400
long time to open the "sort" popup when on a big sheet.
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Gnumeric 1.0.3, compiled from src on redhat 7.1 I have a sheet with a single column (A) of around 36,000 numbers. I try to sort this column (into ascending order), by going to the Data menu and then select "Sort..." At this point, gnumeric then seems to freeze since the "sort" popup menu takes about 30-60 seconds to appear, and during that time gnumeric window refreshes are not done. Is it computing something before bringing up the pop-up (the cpu seems to be at 100% usage during this period)? Once I have the sort popup on screen, the sort takes just a second or two to complete. This is on a fast machine (Dual Athlon MP), so this delay is quite significant. Is it just inevitable given such a big worksheet? (The sheet loads within a couple of seconds). Thanks for all the good work with Gnumeric! Stephen
Thanks for noticing, On smaller sets the algorithm would be fine. Fixed in CVS. The patch will be in the next release, 1.0.4, which has not been scheduled yet.
