Description David King 2012-12-02 09:29:39 UTC
"Sakarumbo" at Wikipedia made an SVG version of the EasyTAG logo:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:EasyTAG_logo.svg

That logo should be added to EasyTAG and used to generate logos in other sizes, or alternatively a new logo could be designed to replace the existing one.

I added a GNOME Art request for a new EasyTAG logo:

> Logo suggestion for EasyTAG

Hi! Sorry for taking a long while to replay to this bug. I really like the logo that you came up with, and I would like to add it to EasyTAG. Could you make some different versions of the logo? I think that a small and large should be enough, and this one seem to qualify as the large size. I think that a 64 × 64 pixel version would be what is needed for the about dialog, but hopefully it will not need much modification. If you have the time, a 22 × 22 pixel and a 48 × 48 pixel size would be great too. Finally, can you provide the SVG of the original? That way, it should be easy to update the logo in the future.

Thanks!

Waqas sent the logos to me by email, and I have pushed them to master as commit a450ff4d0b032051a4dcc879141323db7ff236ba. Thanks Waqas!

I just noticed the new icon in 2.1.8, nice work!

However:

- there is still no 22x22 and 24x24 version (24x24 being the same as the 22x22 with a one-pixel border to match other icon sizes)
- the source SVGs are not available in Git, IMHO it could be helpful to commit them as a reference for the future

22px and 24px icons

Waquas was nice enough to send a 22px version to me. I quickly prepared the 24px version. You can find both attached.

He also explained that the icon was done using CS6, so the usual giant-SVG-with-multiple-sizes workflow using Inkscape (what the GNOME designers use) was not utilized. The file seems to load nicely in Inkscape, but exports look a bit different to the ones done in CS6.

Are those icon sizes used for anything in particular? I seem to remember that 22×22 and 24×24 pixels are used for toolbars, but I do not think that the application icon would be used in a toolbar.

> Are those icon sizes used for anything in particular?

They used to be displayed as launchers on the panel and applications menu in the GNOME 2 days. Right now I am not sure if there is still a place where they are used in GNOME, but most other desktops (LXDE, Xfce for example) use this size heavily. All the icons in gnome-icon-theme are also available in 22x22 and 24x24 to fulfill the Tango icon theme guidelines [1] (see "Sizes").

I added those icons to master in commit d6501d58fb64d06d3986b0a05b094905f24ac285. Thanks!
