GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 68777
editable symlink target in properties dialog
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
It would be useful if the symlink target showed in the properties dialog (right-clicking on a symlink) was editable (as it is the name of the file). I know this is an enanchement, but I think it would be useful to have it soon because at the moment there is no fast way to change the target of a symlink (the possibilities at the moment are deleting the symlink and making a new one or doing it from the command line). Windows 2000 has this feature.
If you'd like to have this soon, then you should either contribute a patch to add the feature, or find a willing hacker to contribute such a patch. We're quite busy porting to Gnome 2 and this feature is nowhere near the top of the list. Good idea, though.
Surprised no one has asked for this before, but AFAICT, it is new.
well symlinks in nautilus are different than windows 2000 shortcuts, which are basically the equivalent of .desktop files. anyway found the dupe and marking as such. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 46306 ***
