GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 681232
Improve the "new archive" file chooser dialog
Last modified: 2012-08-10 10:23:24 UTC
When creating a new archive, the file chooser dialog asks one to name the archive. At the bottom of this dialog, one has the ability to chose the file format from an expander. This expander should be removed because it is overwritten by (and also overwrites) the generic drop down menu/combo box which lists the same options and it is redundant to have two elements with the same function in one dialog. Removing the expander will also make the dialog look more consistent with other GNOME applications.
Created attachment 220392 [details] "New" dialog in flie roller vs "Compress" dialog from context menu in Nautilus Another option to improve the "New Archive" dialog would be to make it look and behave more like the "Compress" dialog. The "Compress" dialog provides the same options but in a cleaner and compact layout.
The "Compress" dialog does look much more user friendly and it is nice to have the "same" dialogs actually look the same for all of GNOME; I would support the move to the "Compress" dialog.
