Description Adrian Custer 2001-12-23 22:43:08 UTC
If a "recently-used" file has been moved in the os (e.g. mv), when that
name is picked in the File menu, gnumeric simply opens an empty file with
that name.

I would expect an error dialog "couldn't find file" and possibly a file
selector menu to find the file myself.

even better would be a list of possible files (similar size, similar name,
similar gnumeric-love level :-) )

ciao,
adrian

Opening an empty file with the same name could be quite misleading.
A not found message, possibly with an option to browse for the missing
option sounds wise.

adding usability keyword

I'd suggest doing what the GNOME recent file thing appears to be
doing: when popping up the menu check if the recent files are still
there, and if not, don't show the menu item.

I'm also for the behaviour that Søren suggestedÖ
checking if the file exists, and remove it from the 'recent' list if it doesn't exist any more.

If you open a lot of mail attachments, then most of the 'recent files' list tends to be filled with /tmp/<incomprehensible_name>, and it would be much better if Gnumeric just looked like it didn't add them to the recent list in the first place.

That could be also improved by adding filter against temporary files.
Comment 4 Morten Welinder 2007-03-15 20:40:43 UTC
We now ignore local files that do not exist.

Non-local files are not tested, but they will produce an error if you try
to open them and they are gone. Ditto for files that disappear under
Gnumeric.

This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
