Description nilgun 2001-12-05 18:21:24 UTC
Hello,

I am the Turkish translator for gnumeric. While testing my translation, I
noticed the following problem:

I use my system with LANG="tr_TR.UTF-8"

I use recent gettext, which does UTF->ISO translations on the fly, and
works fine for other programs.

I have formatted the translation file (PO) in UTF-8.

Now in gnumeric, certain strings look fine, but cells display gibberish
(UTF-8 displayed in ISO8859-9.)

As I do use the latest version of gettext, which does work fine for other
programs, I am inclined to believe that this is due to something gnumeric
must be doing.

Best regards,
Nilgün Belma Bugüner

We are not utf8 clean internally. That will happen after we port to gnome2.

I'm working on this now.

The expression parser is done.
Almer has done a review of the string functions.

I need to complete
: the just in RenderedRegion code that uses pango
: the replacement format engine that is utf8 clean

The worst of it should be done. I'll close this meta bug so that more specific
things can get reported.
