Description Joanmarie Diggs (IRC: joanie) 2011-06-13 00:25:24 UTC
We need to make Orca's GUI prettier, better organized, and more GNOME3ish.
Comment 1 Joanmarie Diggs (IRC: joanie) 2011-06-13 00:27:35 UTC
Assigning to Ale since his company (Emergya) is helping out the team on some initial mockups and pointers. Once we have something we like from the Emergya designers, we can approach the GNOME Design Team for feedback.

I don't know how a GNOME3isher GUI would look. But I have a suggestion.

Since Orca is more a background process, what about to remove the main window completely? It could be replaced by a status icon/AppIndicator with a context menu, which could be accessible via a key binding.

Howdy,

I also made some mockups here. maybe those are helpful.

I think about to make it more "list like". So it more looks like the GCC.
Maybe it could designed to create itself from the given setting structure. I have currently.

I think rip the GUI out and make orca "as a service" is a good idea. The UI should be a stand alone application that just "controlls" orca. We have to keep in mind here orca also has application specific settings. that needs also to be covered.

i have currently some tasks to other stuff, but i plan to start working on that. Is someone working on this currently or have some Ideas?
Is Emergya still interested in? maybe we can cooperate here?

cheers chrys

Hello Joanie,

Could we discuss on this topic before doing changes? As we teach Orca GUI to lot of users it could be interesting to get their feedback and to know in which direction you plan to go to.

Best regards.

If this problem still exists and is an Orca issue (rather than an issue in some other application), please file a new issue in gitlab. Thanks!
