GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 638738
Droplines are inverse
Last modified: 2011-05-29 23:47:33 UTC
I have just upgraded from UBUNTU 9.04 to 10.10 Adding Drop Lines to a data trace I have been able to shade/emphasize a set of data. The current version: 1.10.8 gives the inverse result, ie shading the entire graph area ABOVE the data instead of below it.
Can you attach a sample file please? I can't reproduce, though I might be missing something.
Thanks for the sample file. I see the issue. Actually there is also an issue with the second plot.
This problem has been fixed in our software repository. The fix will go into the next software release. Thank you for your bug report.

Hi Version 1.10.10 is not yet available for Maverick. Downloaded source file but gets stuck on libgoffice-0.8 "Requested 'libgoffice-0.8 >= 0.8.10' but version of libGOffice is 0.8.8 (current Maverick version)" I have found libgoffice-0.8-8_0.8.13-1_i386.deb and would like to know if I should replace libGOffice 0.8.8 with it; ie uninstalling it and then installing the deb package. Thanks for your help Franz (NB new email address)
Sorry, first line should have read: Version 1.10.13 . . .
I don't know about the .deb. You might use goffice sources as well.
Created attachment 180538 [details] dropline problem
Installed Gnumeric 1.10.13 ok with source GOffice as suggested, but the dropline problem didn't go away. BTW, I also opened my original file with Gnumeric 1.10.13 and then saved it as a new file. Opening the new file does not help.
Created attachment 180552 [details] dropline problem As a further test, I created a sample file (see attached) in the new version. Here, evidently the droplines work as expected. That means, the problem lies in the fact that my original file created at least 2 years ago in an old version of Gnumeric has since Ubuntu 9.04 (the last version the droplines displayed correctly - and I never installed Ubuntu 10.04, so I don't know) no complete backward compatibility.
Please attach a send me a sample file. I can't do anything from a screenshot. And I do not see any issue in the file attached to comment #9.
Created attachment 180649 [details] sample with drop lines attched is the requested file. This file was created several years ago and I use it again by replacing the data. Comment 9 was to emphasize that whenever I create a brand new file in ver 13 the drop lines perform as expected.
Your sample is displayed correctly for me when opened with current git of both goffice and gnumeric. Nothing changed in the file format, so it should be indeed fully compatible.
If you open the old file from within the new version (using file->open) does it work? If it does you may still have the old version installed to and when opening a file from nautilus you may get the old version.
(In reply to comment #13) > If you open the old file from within the new version (using file->open) does it > work? If it does you may still have the old version installed to and when > opening a file from nautilus you may get the old version. re comment 12: I have completely removed Goffice and installed 0.8.10 from source (at http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/cvs/x/goffice.html); and Gnumeric 1.10.13 also from source --> see comment 8. re comment 13 Knowing the above, this is what puzzles me. The 'old' file will not render droplines correctly in 1.10.13 although a new file created in 1.10.13 will do it correctly every time.--> see comment 9
You need Goffice-0.8.13 which is the first version with this bug fixed.
(In reply to comment #15) > You need Goffice-0.8.13 which is the first version with this bug fixed. Thank you, Jean. I have replaced GOffice with ver 13 and solved the problem, finally. Thank yopu again for your guidance. Franz
Created attachment 188805 [details] output after "./configure"
Hi Jean I had installed Gnumeric 14 OK in February and it has been working fine. I wanted to install on another PC which now runs Ubuntu 11.04 and used the same components including Goffice 0.8.14. When I run configure on Gnumeric I have some concers because I don't know which packages the notes refer to nand hope you can guide me here. Thank you Franz
I don't see any issue there. No perl support, but this is not currently maintained as far as I know, and the gda/gnome-db plugin is known to be broken. You probably don't need psiconv support or pdf documentation.

After make and make install I now have a desktop configuration file, but it refuses to launch. When I click on it I see "Starting Gnumeric" but it stops after a while without any indication.
Try running from a terminal, there might be some useful message.
(In reply to comment #21) > Try running from a terminal, there might be some useful message. output from terminal: franz@Klimt:~$ gnumeric gnumeric: error while loading shared libraries: libspreadsheet-1.10.14.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory franz@Klimt:~$ I don't understand this error message. Do I need to install this ?
Yu probably need to run ldconfig (as root). make install should have installed the library in /usr/local/lib.
Inexplicably, after I switched my PC on this morning Gnumeric launches perfectly OK. I didn't even have a chance to follow your advice. Anyway, ver 14 is all working OK again also on this PC and droplines displaying correctly. Many thanks Franz
