Description Parrish Myers 2001-10-20 19:36:52 UTC
Package: gnome-core
Severity: normal
Version: 2.0
Synopsis: allow panel to either cascade or H/V tile open windows
Bugzilla-Product: gnome-core
Bugzilla-Component: panel

Description:
There needs to be a method of gettinging the the tasklist to be able to
either cascade all open windows or Horozontal or Vertically tile all
open windows. (Not sure if this is a window manager thing or a panel
thing... but It would be more convient as a right click on the panel.

Reassigning to tasklist

What version of GNOME is this filed against?
Comment 3 Parrish Myers 2002-08-18 12:23:00 UTC
I don't remember now, it was quite a while ago... but in the current
gnome release still doesn't seem to have a way to arrange the on-
screen windows with a right-click on the window-list / panel. I know
this is a windows thing, but it is usefull.
Comment 4 Kjartan Maraas 2002-08-18 22:29:48 UTC
By current, do you mean 2.0.x?
Comment 5 Parrish Myers 2002-08-19 14:35:07 UTC
yes... I have garnome 0.13.0 installed on my Debian sid box.
Comment 6 Kjartan Maraas 2002-10-12 13:12:50 UTC

First patch to add tile H/V to groups of windows

A first patch to get the ball rolling. It does what it promise for metacity but will probably get in to trouble when showing all applications in the taskbar and running compiz. This will change when we get the new infrastructure around virtual desktop.
With small changes (recursive found of windows) it will be useful together with bug #117249.

Would like input of implementation and if the struts things is enough or not.
Feedback from someone with xinerama would be great!

Should we implement cascade as well? If so - how? Eg what size should the windows have, how to position them? (RTL!)

Comment 12 Vish 2009-08-16 13:21:52 UTC
Window cascading from left to right would be better.
Comment 13 Γριφεγ 2009-08-18 11:22:59 UTC
Windows is abandoning H/V tiling in favor of "Aero Snap", so I think THAT new method should be implemented instead.
Comment 14 Marcus Carlson 2009-08-26 21:04:05 UTC
Γριφεγ, well that's up the window managers to implement and I don't think that would hinder adding it to libwnck / gnome-panel.

mac_v, I'm not sure what you mean by "cascading from left to right".
Comment 15 John Stowers 2010-08-23 08:46:26 UTC
Excellent work. I just tested this in combination with bug 117249
