Description Seth Nickell 2001-10-02 00:45:54 UTC
Because nautilus takes a fair amount of time to display anything to the
screen, users sometimes end up double clicking on icons a couple times
while waiting for folders to load. The time between an action and some sort
of response should be kept well under a second, so Nautilus needs a
feedback mechanism, preferably the same one as is used for launching programs.

This bug has been filed as a result of the GNOME Usability Project's "must
fix" drafts for GNOME2.
Comment 2 John Fleck 2002-01-05 04:09:36 UTC
Changing to "old" target milestone for all bugs laying around with no milestone set.
Comment 3 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-03-12 01:31:00 UTC
SHould mark this gnome2 or 1.1.x or if worst comes to worst future.
Comment 4 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-03-13 21:14:49 UTC
Louie can you mark this future.
Comment 5 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-03-14 20:40:59 UTC
Marking this future, this can be implemented easilty by supporting Xalf

Comment 8 Alexander Larsson 2002-03-14 20:57:00 UTC
Except Xalf is a broken piece of crap.

I think the general Gnome plans for this is to support the x launcher
feedback protocol that KDE uses, as discussed on the freedesktop list.
Comment 9 Seth Nickell 2002-03-15 04:33:14 UTC
Havoc has been talking about writing a new system that solves some of
the problems with KDE's system. Dunno how that is progressing. I'd
really like to get this nailed in GNOME in general for 2.2. Its a
serious usability problem.

comments from previous duped bug
------------------------------------------
Since there's a lag between when you double-click a folder
and when it actually opens, especially if it's set to give
every folder its own window it would be nice to have a
wristwatch cursor or zoomrect to indicate that something
will be happening soon and that the click didn't get lost.

Comment 15 Mark Finlay 2003-02-07 19:45:16 UTC
Shouldn't nautilus now be using startup notification?
Comment 16 Murray Cumming 2003-07-28 15:25:34 UTC
This seems to be fixed in bug 107544. Closing as duplicate.
