Description TH 2010-01-30 21:06:59 UTC
When renaming a file, the file disappears.
When renaming a folder, the folder's content disappears, and the folder is not renamed.

This applies to at least *7z, *.zip and *.tar.bz2.
For 7-zip, the package p7zip is installed.
OS: Ubuntu 9.10 amd64

Steps to reproduce:

1) Create two new files inside a folder
2) Compress the folder in either of the three formats mentioned above using the right-click menu option
3) Open the newly created archive in file-roller
4a) Rename a file and watch the renamed file disappear
4b) Rename the folder and watch all the files inside it disappear, while the folder keeps the old name

With *.zip and *.tar.bz2 I see the following error:
"An error occurred while adding files to the archive."

With *.7z I don't see any errors.

Here's another bug-report with somewhat the same problem, but only for remote files: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/485098

I tried with version 2.29.5 and renaming works correctly, although when renaming the folder the old folder is not deleted from the archive, but this is another issue.

Any possibility of backporting a fix if someone else confirms this problem with version 2.28.1?
Comment 3 Paolo Bacchilega 2010-01-31 19:03:54 UTC
doing some testing I found issues in the 2.29 version as well, I hope it's fixed now.

Can you please check again whether this issue still happens in GNOME 2.32.2 or 3.0 and update this report by adding a comment and changing the "Version"
field? Thanks a lot.
Comment 5 TH 2011-04-08 14:35:32 UTC
I checked version 2.32.0 (Ubuntu 10.10) and 2.32.1 (Ubuntu 11.04 beta), and this is no longer an issue...
