Description Arky 2010-01-27 08:11:54 UTC
Provide extra large large cursor size for low vision accessibility. The largest value is 42 right now.

Perhaps gnome-mouse-properties accessibilty panel might have an option for extra large cursor size with high contrast.
Comment 1 Bastien Nocera 2011-09-09 14:44:34 UTC
You can use the "Zoom"/Magnifier feature of GNOME Shell, which might be more useful than a bigger cursor.

Is this appropriate compared to changing the cursor size?

Arky, can you please respond to comment#1 ?
Comment 3 Arky 2011-10-24 08:41:51 UTC
The comment #1 doesn't address the users with partial vision. It is always good idea to have super sized (>42) and color contrasted cursor available
Comment 4 Arky 2012-02-11 18:47:12 UTC
I have responded to this bug in comment #3.

Any update on this bug.

Seems like a reasonable thing to add to the Seeing section, assuming that there is a need for it.

Can someone from a11y comment?

This is loosely connected to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=596386 it would be nice to have some settings. What are your plans so far?

This one has been hanging around for a very long time to remain unconfirmed. I would like to second Arky's request.

This is a pretty basic necessity--not only for those with diminished vision, but also for people who have large displays that aren't directly tied to a dpi setting (like a projector).

I am volunteering to make the fix if the maintainers agree to let me add it.

That's great! Thank you.

Thirded.

Thx.

Hi ! I brought this bug to the a11y team meeting and we consider that, of course, this is a bug and the pointer size should be configurable.

Also, asking questions from duplicated bug #665907, we don't consider that it is a good idea the establishment of a relationship between the mouse pointer size and the text size or the high contrast theme. However, the high contrast theme or the high contrast should change the pointer color potentially.

We rely in Alan's decision, and design team in general, for defining how the setting must be. We think that Alan' suggestion for a section in the Seeing section of the Universal Access panel seems a good place for the mouse pointer size setting.

I personally think that maybe a link to this section in Mouse & Touch panel (similar to Input Source in the Keyboard panel) could be a good addition.

Prior art

Windows:
http://www.isunshare.com/windows-10/3-ways-to-change-mouse-pointer-size-and-color-in-windows-10.html

MacOS:
http://etc.usf.edu/techease/4all/vision/how-do-i-increase-the-size-of-the-cursor-in-mac-os-x/

The options would be:
- Drop-down or separate dialogue showing the different options
- 24px, 36px and 48px, like Windows, or also 64px and 96px?
