GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 590917
Checkbox for disabling/enabling of tapping
Last modified: 2010-01-26 10:12:22 UTC
Hi, it's already possible to disable tapping by setting tapping time and tapping move at shortest level. But it's would be nice, when a checkbox exists for disabling the tapping feature. So that also the unexperienced users may disable the tapping. Thanks for the great job.

With the latest gpointing-device-settings, it seems there are 3 options: Touchpad on, Touchpad off, and Touchpad on, but tapping and scrolling off. As someone who wishes to have the touchpad on, scrolling on, but tapping off, this is extremely counterintuitive. Right now I have removed gpointing-device-settings and just set all of these with synclient (since the ugly hack in /etc/hal/fdi appears to have quit working too). Every other touchpad UI that I've worked with has a checkbox for "touchpad on/off", and similar for tapping and scrolling --- independently. The current UI is rather like having a "Scrolling on, scrolling off, Scrolling on but only upwards" option, which just doesn't make much sense.
