GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 590619
Main-menu too large because of non-optimal translation
Last modified: 2009-08-10 10:49:44 UTC
Incorrect translation Application: gnome-menus Incorrect text: In the Main-menu, "Home" is translated by "Dossier Personnel", which I think is too long. The whole line is too long and the global appearance of the menu is broken, far too large on the right side. Please check the attached screen capture. I don't remember how it was translated before, but I don't remember of such an issue before 11.0. Should be: I suggest to remove the "au total" string to gain some space. It would be nice, if possible, to make the text editable or splitable into 2 lines.

I suspect this screen is Suse specific. Please enter the bug in your distribution issue tracker.
I come from there and they say it is upstream. Look at there : https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=523613
OK, here it is, in gnome-main-menu: #: ../main-menu/src/hard-drive-status-tile.c:239 #, c-format msgid "Home: %s Free / %s" msgstr "Dossier personnel : %s libres / %s au total" My proposal would be: msgstr "Dossier personnel : %s libres sur %s" I don't see a shorter and acceptable version right now. Other opinions?
Not many choices, I think it is better. But to me, another problem is that "Dossier personnel" is not synchronized with the actual folder name (for instance, I tried to rename it "Dossier perso" in nautilus). Or why not giving it the user name ?
I fixed this as in my comment #4. http://git.gnome.org/cgit/gnome-main-menu/commit/?id=59abd82b6b4ed67f359f2caccc5b38fae1222519 The second issue you mention in your last comment is not a translation issue, but an application one. Please report a bug against gnome-main-menu if you want developers to give attention to it.
