GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 590418
chalk doesn't work (sobel doesn't work on alpha)
Last modified: 2015-11-29 15:23:50 UTC
As reported on gimp-user https://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/lists/gimp-user/2009-July/015393.html the chalk logo script no longer works as of gimp 2.6 (and still doesn't work in git master). It's failing because the new 2.6 sobel doesn't work on a text layer to detect alpha edges. If the script merged the white chalk with a black background layer before calling sobel, it would work. I can make the fix to the script, but first I wanted to ask whether that sobel change was intentional, since 2.6 sobel is very different from 2.4 sobel and it's possible that part of the change wasn't intentional.
If the script does get updated, it should probably use a different default font: does anyone have "Cooper" any more?
All scripts that use fonts should specify one of the generic font families (Sans, Serif, ...).
Well, fontconfig deals nicely with a font name that is not available. But yeah, if someone wants to look into changing the default fonts, that would be appreciated.

Just checked in a fix (to git master). Should this go on the 2.6 branch? Leaving the bug open to find out.
Yes, this should be merged to the gimp-2-6 branch.
Checked in on the gimp-2-6 branch as well. Closing.
