GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 590182
use Cheese as name in desktop file
Last modified: 2009-09-18 20:32:37 UTC
As discussed in various places we shouldn't use the generic name in the name field in the desktop files: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xdg/2009-July/010807.html We should also have consistency between the Name field, the name used in the titlebar, the name used in the application menu (gnome-shell, or OS X), the about box, and the documentation. Can we change the name in the desktop file to reflect this?
we had a similar discussion, some time ago. thats where we changed the entry to "Cheese Webcam Booth". Whats your proposal?
Please also see: http://live.gnome.org/GnomeGoals/CorrectGenericName/ Name = Cheese GenericName = Webcam Booth
oh, i thought you want to propose a different naming too. anyway, this change is ok for me, if it gets approved for a gnome wide goal

Comment on attachment 141444 [details] [review] Fix .desktop file It was finally decided to use X-GNOME-FullName, to mark how it's specific to GNOME.
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
