GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 590181
Use Brasero as desktop file Name
Last modified: 2009-08-27 06:33:39 UTC
As discussed in various places we shouldn't use the generic name in the name field in the desktop files: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xdg/2009-July/010807.html We should also have consistency between the Name field, the name used in the titlebar, the name used in the application menu (gnome-shell, or OS X), the about box, and the documentation. Can we change the name in the desktop file to reflect this?
Thanks for the pointer. I don't see any problem in fixing that; it does make sense. Just one question though; is the proposal already implemented? Or will it be implemented for 2.28? Should I jump into it now or wait for it to be implemented?
I fixed the name entry in the two desktop files of brasero. I also went ahead and added the FullName entry (was I right about it?) even though it won't probably be used right now.
I thought that maybe I went too far. I reverted the addition of FullName; it's maybe better to wait for the proposal to be validated first. If you think otherwise, please let me know so I'll re-add that entry.
Now it says "Brasero" instead of Disk burner or something. Usually gnome applications use the description instead of name. For example, file-roller icon says 'Archive Manager' instead of File-roller.
Philippe, the latest resolution on this issue is to use a X-FullName while we wait for a new spefication version to be published. Could you add a new X-FullName key, "Brasero Disc Burner" ? Hussam: it needs a patch to gnome-panel (well, to gnome-menus) and then it will be back to the way it was. This patch will get in before 2.28.
Frederic, done just in time before the string freeze ;).
Created attachment 141812 [details] [review] Fix .desktop file It was finally decided to use X-GNOME-FullName, as the key is GNOME specific
Sorry Javier I already filed a new bug about this, bug 593210 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 593210 ***
