Description Andrés G. Aragoneses (IRC: knocte) 2009-07-25 01:59:41 UTC
It would be awesome to integrate Evince with PDF Mod [1], in the same way that evolution now allows managed (mono-based) plugins.

What kind of integration? could you explain it a little further, please?
Comment 2 Andrés G. Aragoneses (IRC: knocte) 2009-08-07 22:09:31 UTC
In the URL I attached there are already some thoughts on this.

However, Gabriel raises very good points:

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/pdfmod-list/2009-August/msg00020.html

Which leads me to think: maybe the easiest integration is the way to go: just an Edit submenu on Evince that launches pdfmod if it's available.

Regards.

Does evince have a plugin API, such that PdfMod developers could distribute a plugin that adds such an option in Evince's UI?

Editing capabilities are actually out of scope in evince, see bug #314683. However, I think integretion in the other direction would make more sense, that is, PDFMod might use evince (actually libevview) to show or preview the PDF files that are being edited.

Carlos, thank you very much for pointing out this bug. A lot of pdfmod users (or potential users) have been asking why the app was not just done as part of Evince. Gabriel has maintained that it makes more sense to have separate, simple apps, and it's good to hear that the Evince developers agree.

I think integration *both* ways would make sense, but I have filed bug #591152 against pdfmod to add this feature, which I think is a great idea, thanks! :-)

This would not be an "editing capability" in Evince, but a sort of shortcut for launching an alternate program for editing.

pdfshuffler doesn't have pdfmod's mono dependency
