GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 585149
Application ShareMyDesktop
Last modified: 2009-07-20 13:37:14 UTC
The branch of ShareMyDesktop : http://git.collabora.co.uk/?p=user/ksz/vino.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/share It allows to share your desktop with an empathy contact, it's based on libempathy and it's optional. As regards
Why not just add an option in vino capplet? Sounds weird to me add another binary and another menu entry just for that purpose...
That sounded like a abuse of the capplet to us. capplet are for configuration.
In the capplet we already have a (poor) way to invite users. By clicking on the link you can send an email to someone. Perhaps we should just improve that dialog adding a custom widget allowing the user to choose his buddy to share the desktop.
I'm really not conviced, I doubt users will find this feature. Most of them just enable/disable Vino using the capplet and then forget about it. I agree that having a separated app is far from being optimal. Ideally that should be done in an Empathy plugin but Empathy doesn't currently have any plugin support (and is not likely to gain one in the near futur). So the question is "should we use an external app for now and improve that later or delay this feature until an undefined date?".
Take a look at bug 471366. There's a wish to integrate sharing preferences for 3.0. What do you think?
Could make sense. But I still think this feature shouldn't be in a preferences dialog.
We agreed during the Empathy BOF at GUADEC to merge this feature in Empathy for now. That should be merged in the new days. Closing this bug as it doesn't make sense any more.
Great!
FYI, the Empathy bug is #589091
