Description AdemoS 2009-05-28 23:47:20 UTC
Distro: Ubuntu 9.04 - 64 bit
Video Card: Geforce 9800 GTX
Video Driver: nvidia closed-source 180.44

I'm using the official Ubuntu Jaunty repository provided by Pitivi to get the latest gstreamer libraries and Pitivi release.

Video types tested:
mp4
ogv

Note: Video playback with mplayer and totem [via gstreamer] has no video playback issues.

Steps I Get To Experience This Error:
1.) Import a video clip from hard disk
2.) Drag the video clip handle from the beginning to the right, to shorten the introduction
3.) Drag the entire video clip to the left, to remove the gap created
4.) Playback the video clip at any point

With mp4 Video:
Video will playback but stutter and lag; audio unaffected

With ogv Video:
Video will play for a half a second and then stop completely; audio unaffected.

Additional Notes
- Rendering the project and playing back the file shows no video lag or stutter
- Manually dragging the video playback with my mouse, functions normally. But obviously that isn't a real solution.

So it appears that something is going wrong, but I can't determine what. I've tried running Pitivi through the terminal, but get no error messages to indicate what's wrong.

In a another ogv file:

I used the Razor tool to cut the video clip into two parts.

The first part of the clip still has the video playback issue.

The second part of the clip....mysteriously DOES NOT have the video playback issue. The entire second part of clip runs without any video playback issues...

I then used the Razor tool to cut the second part again.

Now there are three parts to the video clip.

The second and third part playback correctly.

But the first part continues to play video second, then freeze. While the audio continues in the first part has is unaffected and plays normally.

Hey there, maybe providing a debug log such as this could help the devs (compress it before attaching it):

PITIVI_DEBUG=*:5 GST_DEBUG=3,gnl*:5,python:5 bin/pitivi > debug.log 2>&1

I'm not sure it is the right "kind" of debug log though.

Ademos, Can you try again with a later version of pitivi (from the gstreamer-developers PPA) and confirm whether this issue is fixed for you ?
Comment 4 AdemoS 2009-09-06 07:54:47 UTC
Edward, I apologize for not updating the bug report.

With the latest build of Pitivi and gStreamer codecs, the video playback issue has disappeared in the instances I mentioned.

I will re-open this bug if the problem re-surfaces.

Thanks for reminding me.
