Description cronholio 2009-05-15 07:01:18 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I try to open a pcap file after associating the file type with Wireshark and get the message "Could not display <filename>. The file is of an unknown type."

Steps to reproduce:
1. in the properties window of a pcap file, associate the file type with Wireshark
2. double-click on the file icon

Actual results:
see above

Expected results:
The file should be opened with Wireshark.

Does this happen every time?
yes

Other information:
This bug seems to have been around for some time and it might happen also for other types, see: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/287942

Can you please attach said pcap file? Also is the pcap file located on a remote volume or locally?
Comment 2 cronholio 2012-08-21 11:11:35 UTC
No, since this happened a few years ago and I don't have access to the system anymore. It affected all pcap files though, local ones as well.

To be honest, I think we can close this issue since it's pretty old and either fixed by now or it happens only in rare cases.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. If you can reproduce this again please reopen.
