Gstreamer + PulseAudio no sound on karmic
Last modified: 2010-11-23 05:24:54 UTC
Please describe the problem: Nothing using gstreamer + pulseaudio playbacks anymore. System sounds doesn't work either. Steps to reproduce: 1. open totem 2. select an audio file 3. execute it. Actual results: $ totem K.I.T.T.mp3 (totem:5445): GVFS-RemoteVolumeMonitor-WARNING **: invoking IsSupported() failed for remote volume monitor with dbus name org.gtk.Private.GduVolumeMonitor: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildSignaled: Process /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor received signal 11 /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/gdata/tlslite/utils/cryptomath.py:9: DeprecationWarning: the sha module is deprecated; use the hashlib module instead import sha ** Message: Error: Disconnected: Conexão terminada pulsesink.c(451): gst_pulsesink_is_dead (): /GstPlayBin:play/GstBin:visbin/GstBin:abin/GstBin:audiosinkbin/GstGConfAudioSink:audio-sink/GstBin:bin5/GstAutoAudioSink:autoaudiosink1/GstPulseSink:autoaudiosink1-actual-sink-pulse Expected results: Nothing is to be expected. It just should work Does this happen every time? every time Other information: I own a Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 07) using SPDIF (coaxial) After I've tried to play the .mp3 file I've lost all my sound output even using VLC (over SPDIF) No sound either using flash on Firefox. I was able to regain sound over SPDIF (VLC) runing: (after close all open programs) $ iecset audio true Then you can activate (uncheck & check) your digital output (SB Live!) with alsa mixer or gnome.
From here, and the further description in https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gst-plugins-good0.10/+bug/376701 it sounds like your pulseaudio died, and it's just a coincidence that you upgraded gst-plugins-base around the same time. Does it work after a reboot?
@Jan Schmidt Thanks for replying. - "...it sounds like your pulseaudio died, and it's just a coincidence that you upgraded gst-plugins-base around the same time." This is a clean install of Karmic Koala. Sorf of... I can't tell you if that is a coincidence or not. Because, the very first thing I did, after the installation completed, was to update & dist-upgrade. I'm not sure, but I would say that some gstreamer packages were updated. I enabled the SB Live! output after the update take place and reboot. The one thing I'd remember is that when I've first check the SB Live! output my Z-5500 went from "No Digital Output" to "Stereo X2" and when I've tried to play a .mkv (after the proper gstreamer plugins downloading take place) this bug did happen for the first time. - "Does it work after a reboot?" No, it doesn't. The only thing that works is VLC SPDIF passthrough. VLC doesn't work with anything besides *AC3/DD/DTS* After I've tried to play, for instance, a .avi XviD/Mp3 file, even VLC loses audio playback, being necessary to workaround it. (after close all open programs) $ iecset audio true Then you can activate (uncheck & check) your digital output (SB Live!) with alsa mixer or gnome. Now you have audio playback using VLC (SPDIF) *AC3/DD/DTS* only As you may already guessed this is very annoying. I hope this will help to shed some light on this issue.
It is an audio playback related bug. Today I stepped on this web stream (soundless) video and everything went smooth. http://seilo.geekyogre.com/uploads/2009/03/Zeitgeist.ogv
This sounds like a pulseaudio problem. You still get no sound?
