Description Andrew 2009-05-09 10:09:01 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Songs copied to ipod from rhythmbox end up with the wrong album art (on the ipod). Specifically the album art gets completely "mixed up". The album art is there but its usually not correct / belongs to another song. (NB. ipod was previously used with itunes under windows and was not "cleared" before starting to use rhythmbox)

Steps to reproduce:
1. Drag songs from rhythmbox collection list to a connected ipod
2. Playback or browse songs on ipod
3.

Actual results:
Album art seen during playback or in cover flow doesn't match the song being played / displayed.

Expected results:
Correct album art for song

Does this happen every time?
Last copy seemed to loose a lot of album artwork altogether

Other information:
ipod nano "model" PB257ZP (generation 3) "version" 1.1.3 PC

What libgpod version are you using? How long have you been seeing this behaviour? Is that something you only noticed recently, has it always been broken?
Comment 2 Andrew 2009-05-09 23:37:46 UTC
Sorry for omitting that. We started using rythmbox with ubuntu 8.10 which is libgpod 0.6.0. I believe most of the problems were observed with this version.

Ipod was wiped today and all music reloaded under ubuntu 9.04 (libgpod4 0.7.0.1ubuntu1). It now seems that the only tracks that have any album art are the ones ripped under 9.04. Lots of grey squares in cover flow.

I'm not even sure how most of the songs store cover art these days: in the file's metadata; separate, per album database, downloaded at play time... I'm sure we have a mix.

Hmm, ok. I suspect there are bad interactions between itunes and libgod related to album art, but I never found a reliable way to reproduce it and investigate.

Might explain why some of the cover art isn't transferred to the iPod. Once it's on the iPod, all album art that the album can display is stored in a dedicated database on the iPod, so where the art came from shouldn't matter.
