GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 581388
Nautilus sends OTF font files to OOo instead of to Font Previewer
Last modified: 2010-04-11 00:02:53 UTC
Please describe the problem: Double-clicking on an OTF font file in Naut. causes OOo to attempt to open & handle the file, which it can't do. TTF font files are handled correctly by the Font Previewer, and if you manually select Open With->Font Previewer for an OTF file it works, but the default setting is wrong. This bug was opened in Launchpad (https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/338682) and with Freedesktop.org (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20854) and closed in both places - Freedesktop.org denies it's a bug in their metadata. An Ubuntu dev over on LP denies it's a Nautilus/file-handling bug. Various devs seem happy to play bug-badminton with this one - maybe opening it here will actually get an adult response? Steps to reproduce: 1. Find an OTF file thru Nautilus 2. Double-click on it. 3. Watch OpenOffice.org fail to open it. Actual results: OOo mistakes OTF for some sort of OOo template file, and fails. Expected results: Font Previewer to open and show me a simple preview of the font. Note that Gnome's font previewer is capable of doing this, it's just not being called properly by Nautilus and/or the metadata in use. Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: This is a regression bug - font preview used to work perfectly in Nautilus until one or two releases ago, when it broke entirely. Now TTF preview is back, but OTF preview runs into this bug. And attempting to report this bug and get it acknowledged runs into NOTOURBUG flags all over the place.
Seeing as this was fixed in shared-mime-info, it was never a nautilus bug.
